Tal día como hoy, el 3 de marzo de 1973, la banda inglesa de glam rock Slade entró directamente en el nº 1 de las listas británicas con la canción Cum on feel the noize (Holder / Lea), algo que no sucedía desde "Get back" de Los Beatles en 1969. En esa posición se mantuvo cuatro semanas y la canción resultaría un hit internacional en Europa y Australia.

Slade se formaron en Wolverhampton en 1966, siendo sus miembros: Noddy Holder (cantante), Dave Hill (guitarra), Jim Lea (bajo) y Don Powell (batería). En la primera mitad de la década de los 70 dominaron el panorama musical británico logrando múltiples hits, entre ellos seis nº 1: "Coz I luv you" (1971), "Take me bak 'ome" (1972), "Mama weer all crazee now" (1972), "Cum on feel the noize" (1973), "Skweeze me, pleeze me" (1973) y "Merry Xmas everybody" (1973). Fue el grupo que más singles vendió en toda la década en Gran Bretaña.

En las Navidades de 1973 el grupo británico de glam-rock Slade alcanzó el número 1 por sexta vez en las listas de su país con Merry Xmas everybody, canción compuesta por su cantante y guitarrista Noddy Holder y el bajista Jim Lea. Con más de un millón de copias, fue el single más vendido del grupo de Birmingham y, de largo, el mayor éxito de su carrera. Desde entonces no ha dejado de reeditarse y, con el tiempo, se ha convertido en uno de los temas navideños más populares en el Reino Unido.
