Recordamos al cantante, actor y entertainer estadounidense Al Jolson en el sesenta y seis aniversario de su fallecimiento con Sonny Boy (Henderson / De Sylva / Brown), hiper-sentimental canción incluida en la película "El loco cantor" (1928) de Lloyd Bacon, protagonizada por el que fue primer ídolo del cine sonoro. Este título, que constituyó el primer largometraje 100% hablado del cantante, emocionó profundamente a toda América contando la historia de un artista determinado a continuar con su espectáculo mientras su hijo pequeño yace moribundo. Jolson, que había triunfado clamorosamente un año antes con "El cantor de jazz", logró un éxito popular aún mayor con "El loco cantor", película que se mantuvo en el box office como la más taquillera durante once años hasta que fue desbancada por "Lo que el viento se llevó" (1939). En cuanto a Sonny Boy, la grabación se prolongó durante doce semanas en el nº 1 de las listas estadounidenses y fue la primera canción en la historia en superar el millón de copias vendidas.
