Catherine Deneuve y Nino Castelnuovo, jovencísimos y guapísimos en 1964, protagonizan aquí una de las escenas cumbre de "Los paraguas de Cherburgo" (y, por extensión, de todo el género musical/romántico). La feliz confluencia de los talentos de Demy y Legrand cristalizó en una novedosa especie de ópera pop que conquistó plateas a escala mundial. El film consiguió aquel año la Palma de Oro en Cannes y nominación al Oscar en el apartado de mejor película en lengua no inglesa. Al siguiente, obtuvo otras cuatro candidaturas a los Academy Awards de Hollywood, entre ellas, a este inolvidable 'Love theme'.
Esta es una de las canciones jamás escritas que más me gustan. Y ésta la versión inglesa que prefiero. Para su intérprete, Liza Minnelli, 1972 fue un año crucial. Además de estrenar "Cabaret", su exitoso film con Bob Fosse, cautivó al público parisino en su concierto del Olympia, del que se filmaron estas imágenes -amazing performance!- con el tema principal de "Los paraguas de Cherburgo" del ínclito Jacques Demy. La preciosa partitura de "Je ne pourrai jamais vivre sans toi" (con letra original de Demy y música de un Michel Legrand más inspirado que nunca) fue adaptada al inglés por Norman Gimbel con el título de I will wait for you. Más romántico, imposible. Liza, aquí 'at her best', con look chaplinesco, está inmensa.
