Bobby Vinton - Blue velvet

El cantante estadounidense Bobby Vinton (Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, US, 16-4-1935) cumple hoy 85 años. En los comienzos de su carrera fue ídolo de adolescentes. Su abundante discografía comprende el periodo 1958-2015. En las décadas de los 60 y 70 tuvo hits como Roses are red (My love) (1962, nº 1 en USA), Blue on blue (1963), Blue velvet (1963, nº 1 en USA), There! I've said it again (1963, nº 1 en USA), My heart belongs to only you (1964), Mr. Lonely (1964, nº 1 en USA), Please love me forever (1967), I love how you love me (1968), Sealed with a kiss (1972) o My melody of love (1974).

Compuesta en 1950 por Bernie Wayne y Lee Morris, la canción Blue velvet obtuvo un moderado éxito en 1951 en la voz de Tony Bennett. En 1963 reapareció incluida en Blue on blue, un curioso álbum de Bobby Vinton publicado en agosto donde las doce canciones (casi todas versiones) contenían la palabra 'blue' en su título y que fue producido por Bob Morgan con arreglos orquestales a cargo de Burt Bucharach. Su primer single, "Blue on blue" (Bacharach / David), lanzado en mayo, llegó al nº 3 en las listas de Billboard. Meses después, cuando Blue velvet, segundo single del álbum, alcanzó en septiembre el nº 1 en USA y se convirtió en la canción de mayor éxito en la carrera de Vinton, el L.P. se reeditó con el título cambiado a Blue velvet.

La melodía volvió a ponerse de moda tras el estreno de la película "Blue velvet" (1986) de David Lynch, en la que sonaba varias veces.
