Liza Minnelli - Maybe this time

SOMETHING'S BOUND TO BEGIN

La actriz y cantante estadounidense Liza Minnelli cumple hoy 72 años. Cuando tenía 25 se estrenó la película que la convirtió en superestrella: "Cabaret" (1972) de Bob Fosse, exitoso y multipremiado musical dramático que ella protagonizó junto a Michael York y por el que ganó un Globo de Oro, un BAFTA y el Oscar a la mejor actriz. Con no pocas variantes, el film llevó a la pantalla el musical homónimo estrenado en Broadway en 1966, con libreto de Joe Masteroff y canciones de John Kander (música) y Fred Ebb (letra). Este, a su vez, se basaba en la obra teatral "Soy una cámara" (1951) de John Van Druten, que adaptaba a la escena la novela corta "Adiós a Berlín" (1939) de Christopher Isherwood, que transcurría en los años de la república alemana de Weimar, mientras el nacional socialismo ascendía de forma terriblemente imparable.

Entre las magníficas canciones que Kander y Ebb escribieron para el musical destaca Maybe this time, donde la divinamente decadente y bohemia protagonista americana Sally Bowles expresa de forma conmovedora sus esperanzas de que, por una vez tras sus previos fracasos amorosos, su relación sentimental con el británico Brian Roberts llegue a buen fin.
